Emerging Scholars

The second Weill Institute Emerging Scholars Symposium at Cornell University will be held on October 13th, 2025, preceding the 8th Weill Institute Symposium on October 14th.
The Weill Institute Emerging Scholars Symposium is a one-day event where exceptional senior Ph.D. students and postdocs in cell and molecular biology programs and related disciplines are invited to Cornell’s campus to share their research with the Cornell life sciences community. Awardees will additionally be invited to attend the 8th Weill Institute Symposium and interact with our distinguished invited speakers.
- Network with students, postdocs, and faculty, and learn about collaboration and career opportunities at Cornell University
- Attend the Weill Institute Symposium on October 14 and interact with prestigious invited speakers from worldwide institutions
- Spotlight your research and academic achievements
- Visit Cornell’s beautiful Ithaca, NY campus and the surrounding area
2025 Timeline:
- Application opens: February 10th, 2025
- Application deadline: April 14th, 2025 (11:59 PM EDT)
- Awardees will be notified of their application status by the end of June
- The Emerging Scholars Symposium will take place October 13th, 2025
- The 8th Weill Institute Symposium will take place on October 14th, 2025
Eligibility:
- PhD or MD-PhD candidates within approximately 2 years of anticipated degree completion, and post-docs (separate sessions will be held for grad students and post-docs)
- Significant progress made in research project
Application Materials (margins of 0.5” for all pages; minimum font size 11 for main text):
- Research statement, 1-2 pages
- Highlight your previous research accomplishments and the impact of your past research
- Include a brief description of future research interests
- Diversity/outreach/community building statement, up to 1 page
- Describe your experience with regards to diversity, equity, and inclusion within your community or workplace
- Highlight any initiatives you have led or participated in that foster a sense of belonging, connection, and empowerment for diverse groups
- How do you plan to continue contributing to community building and outreach in the future?
- Academic CV (no more than 6 pages) or NIH biosketch
- Letter of support, preferably from the applicant’s PhD advisor or current PI
