The Weill Institute Emerging Scholars Symposium is a one-day event where exceptional senior Ph.D. students from institutions external to Cornell are invited to Cornell’s campus to share their research with the Weill Institute community, celebrate their academic achievements, interact with students and faculty, and explore post-doctoral collaboration and research opportunities. Awardees are additionally invited to attend the Weill Institute Symposium and meet with the speakers. 

The inaugural Weill Institute Emerging Scholars Symposium was held on October 9th, 2023, preceding the 7th Biennial Weill Institute Symposium on October 10th.

Highlights of this program include:
  • Spotlight awardee research and academic achievements.
  • Attend the 7th Biennial Weill Institute Symposium and interact with faculty and invited speakers.
  • Visit Cornell’s beautiful campus and the surrounding Ithaca, NY.
  • Travel and lodging expenses will be covered for awardees.
2023 Timeline:
  • Application opens February 1st, 2023.
  • Application deadline is April 15th, 2023.
  • Awardees will be notified of application status by mid-late June.
  • The Emerging Scholars Symposium will take place October 9th, 2023.
  • The 7th Biennial Weill Institute Symposium will take place October 10th, 2023.
Eligibility:
  • PhD or MD-PhD candidates within approximately 2 years of anticipated degree completion
  • Open to students of all nationalities
  • Current institution is located within the United States or Canada
  • Significant progress made in research project
Application Materials:
  • Research statement, 1-2 pages
  • Diversity/outreach/community-building statement, up to 1 page
  • Academic CV
  • Letter of support from applicant’s Ph.D. advisor
