Join Microbiology graduate student Kevin England of the Feaga Lab as he discusses Revealing the translatome with ribo-seq: theory, applications, and resources using skills obtained from his attendance at EMBO Practical Course: Measuring Translational Dynamics by Ribosome Profiling in Heidelberg, Germany, on March 23 – 28, 2025. Participation in this program was funded by the Weill Institute Research Expertise Advancement Program (REAP). Ribosome profiling (ribo-seq) is an emerging technique that identifies the precise location of ribosomes genome-wide. This technique is based on sequencing ribosome-protect mRNA fragments (ribosome footprints). Thus, ribo-seq reveals not only translation efficiency but also regulatory or aberrant events in...

Advance Your Research Skills with REAP – Apply by February 9. The Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology is pleased to announce that the REAP application portal is now open. Applications will be accepted through February 9, 2026. As scientific technologies continue to advance rapidly, the Research Expertise Advancement Program (REAP) supports Cornell life sciences laboratories in staying current with emerging tools and methods in cell and molecular biology. REAP provides full or partial funding (up to $3,000) for faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers to attend technology-focused workshops or courses, with the expectation that participants will share the acquired expertise with the broader Cornell community. For program details and to apply, visit:...
Join Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology and the Mechanobiology Hub on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 for our spring seminar featuring TBD. TUESDAY FEBRUARY 17, 2026 4:00 PM TBD Mechanobiology describes the study of how mechanical stimuli modulate the biological function and mechanical properties of cells and tissues, and conversely how the mechanical properties of biological materials govern their function, with broad implications in physiology and disease. At Cornell University, mechanobiology research spans all length scales, from the cell and molecular level to tissues and organs, including traditional biomechanics at the tissue/organ level and biological responses at the cell/molecular level. Mechanobiology applications include organ development, heart and...
