Fleming Research Fellowship Program

The Sam and Nancy Fleming Research Fellowship program has been established and endowed by a gift from the Flemings to the Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology. This Fellowship will be awarded yearly and will support talented young researchers who are doing cutting-edge research in basic biomedical sciences and are planning careers in biological or medical research. Awarded for terms of three years, this investment in the next generation of scientists will help to ensure their research success and allow them to develop into independent investigators who ultimately will train future generations of scientists.

Avilash Singh Yadav – Postdoctoral Associate, School of Integrative Plant Science, Plant Biology Secion; Roeder Lab.

Avilash’s project moves him to research factors which determines consistency in the shape and size of organs. To answer this, he explores how coordinated tissue growth in real-time generates functional organs, and its real-world applications. The Fleming Fellowship will be key in supporting the next breakthroughs of Avilash’s work.

Julie Heffler – Postdoctoral Associate, Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology, Department of Biomedical Engineering; Lammerding Lab.

Julie’s project sees her focus on answering whether heart diseases are caused by forces pulling and pushing on the nucleus or by askewed gene expression. The Fleming Fellowship will help her investigate the link between the LINC complex and the LMNA – DCM nuclei, the key in answering her inquiry.
